Shoot Out trainer, John Wallace declared his horse would win the Cox Plate following the horses impressive win in the J.J. Liston Stakes on Saturday.

Bookmakers agreed. They have Shoot Out, unbeaten in two Victorian runs, a clear Cox Plate favourite.

TAB Sportsbet trimmed Shoot Out in to $5, while Betstar tightened the four-year-old's odds from $9 to $6.

Liston Stakes runner-up Predatory Pricer firmed from $15 to $11 equal second favourite with reigning champion So You Think, scratched from the Liston Stakes because of the heavy rated track condition.

Wallace has no doubt Shoot Out will continue to improve.

"He's nowhere near ready. I've just been playing about with him," he said. "He'll win the Cox Plate."

Wallace said the AJC Derby winner could then head to the Melbourne Cup.

Asked if Shoot Out could win the Melbourne Cup, Wallace said: "We'll see, but I won't run him if I don't think he can."
